Soy, a sustainable and eco-responsible material
The most produced legume in the world, soya, is now transformed into textile fiber to create eco-responsible clothing . With more than 336 million tonnes produced each year, the food industry is collaborating with ethical and eco-responsible ready-to-wear brands to reduce the environmental impact of this controversial crop. We knew the dietary benefits of soy, which is widely consumed in Asia and popular in the West in diets for its protein qualities. It is now transformed into textile fiber and knitted.
How is soy fiber created?
The fiber is created from soy proteins, which are waste and surplus from the food industry. Soy protein is liquefied and extruded into long fibers, which are then cut and used as yarn for weaving. This waste recovery helps reduce the environmental impact of this production. Soy has many benefits in its textile form: antibacterial and thermoregulatory. Because of its silky appearance, its great softness and its lightness, soy fiber is nicknamed “vegetable cashmere”. Its high absorption capacity allows you to use few dyes and also wicks away perspiration, a significant fact.
LO NEEL and its ecological values:
LO NEEL chose to work with this innovative fiber for its benefits and impact. The key pieces are the Aza Top or the Ascilla dress, which have become emblematic of the LO NEEL wardrobe. By recycling waste from the food industry to create its clothing, LO NEEL is committed to a more eco-responsible and ecological approach, thus reducing the environmental impact of its production.
