Rose petal fiber, a vegan alternative to traditional silk.
Silk is a textile of animal origin created in China almost 2000 years ago. It is produced from the slime of the Bombyx caterpillar also called “silkworm”. The caterpillar weaves its cocoon using its slime to transform into a butterfly. Unfortunately, during the manufacturing process, the cocoons that will become silk filaments are boiled to kill the “worm”. Nowadays, many intensive farms of these insects, which do not comply with standards, have been created for the production of this material.
There are other types of silk, such as spider silk, known for its exceptional resistance. However, it is impossible to produce this material in large quantities because these insects devour each other. Scientists have therefore genetically modified silkworms by integrating the spider gene into them to produce this unique type of silk.
To compensate for these unnatural and immoral manufacturing methods, an ethical and vegan alternative was created: rose petal fiber , ECO VERA certified.
The manufacturing process of this fiber:
The natural waste from rose petals, from rose bushes grown without chemical fertilizers , is collected by our partners in India at the end of the flower's flowering process. Rose fiber is a cellulose fiber, which gives the textile its silky, light, supple and absorbent appearance. Cellulose is extracted from unused parts of the flower, as well as the petals and the inner bark of the stem, and is then processed. These materials are delicately spun because the fiber is very fine, so this step can take time. The spinning technique used is Worsted, a tight spinning with a spinning wheel which gives this fiber this luxuriously soft appearance, comparable to silk .
LO NEEL , a mix between romanticism and protection of beings:
This noble and innovative fiber is at the center of the creation of the new LO NEEL capsule. The designers chose it for its properties: a soft, silky touch and a lightness comparable to silk. In addition to being a vegan alternative to this material, the rose evokes romanticism and passion . Born in Paris, city of love, LO NEEL let herself be carried away by this feeling by creating an entire capsule for this fiber. The Erika Tabacco and Émeraude dresses have become essentials in our wardrobe and the favorite choice of our customers.
