Global warming and fashion: why every choice matters
Share
The climate is heating up — and fashion is helping
Global warming is no longer an abstract threat. Average global temperatures are rising, extreme events are multiplying, and the planet is depleting its resources at an alarming rate. Yet one sector continues to accelerate this disruption without any real brakes: fashion .
Often overshadowed by other, more high-profile industries, fashion is responsible for up to 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions —more than aviation and shipping combined. Added to this is colossal water consumption, massive microplastic releases , and staggering waste: in Europe, more than 4 million tons of textiles are thrown away each year .
An industry that urgently needs to be transformed
The root of this disaster: fast fashion . Producing more and more, faster and faster, at low cost, while exploiting the planet like human beings. The result: clothes that don't last long, pollute a lot, and end up in landfills or incinerated, sometimes without ever having been worn.
Faced with this, another path is necessary: that of responsible fashion , which considers clothing not as a disposable product, but as an object of value, designed with respect - for the environment, for humans, for future generations.
This is the perspective we have at LO NEEL . As an ethical, vegan and committed brand, we design conscious fashion , combining elegance and responsibility .
We select innovative, plant-based materials with low environmental impact — such as Piñatex® pineapple fiber , FSC-certified viscose, or organic cotton — and we favor local, artisanal, and environmentally friendly production.
