La fibre de mûrier Bio : Une alternative écologique et éthique au cuir animal

Organic Mulberry Fiber: An Ecological and Ethical Alternative to Animal Leather

In a world where the fashion industry is often synonymous with pollution, animal suffering and resource depletion, LO NEEL chooses a different path: that of innovation, ethics and sustainability. Today, we present one of our flagship materials, which perfectly embodies this commitment: organic mulberry fiber , also called Hanji .

Why rethink leather?

Every year, more than a billion animals are killed in the leather industry, one of the most polluting in the world. Added to this are the heavy chemical treatments used in tanning, which threaten the health of workers and contaminate soil and water.

And while synthetic alternatives may seem appealing, they are often made from plastic, petroleum, or PVC, materials that are harmful to the environment and difficult to biodegrade.

Organic mulberry fiber: a responsible response

In light of these findings, organic mulberry fiber stands out as a genuine vegan, ecological and innovative alternative .

Also known as Hanji , this material is made from the bark of the mulberry tree grown in South Korea. It has been certified by official South Korean agencies for its quality, reduced environmental impact, and unique technical properties.

A virtuous, artisanal manufacturing process

The manufacture of Hanji fiber is based on ancestral know-how :

  1. The bark of the mulberry tree is harvested and steamed .

  2. The outer layers are separated to insulate the inner fibers.

  3. These are washed , dried naturally in the sun , then immersed in cold water to remove the last impurities.

  4. The fibers are then beaten by hand , then woven with organic cotton , giving rise to a textile that is soft, strong and breathable .

A material with unique properties

Organic mulberry fiber isn't just eco-friendly. It's also:

  • Antibacterial and deodorizing

  • Lightweight, breathable and windproof

  • Absorbent and thermoregulating : it absorbs moisture when it is humid, and releases it when it is dry

  • Soft and firm to the touch , for optimal comfort

By choosing materials like organic mulberry fiber, you're supporting a new way of thinking about fashion : respectful of animals, humans and the planet.
