Déchets, pollution, mode : la vérité sur les déchets textiles

Waste, pollution, fashion: the truth about textile waste

Every day, our habits leave traces. Sometimes invisible, always lasting. In the air we breathe, in the oceans, in the soil: waste is accumulating , and its impact on nature is dramatic. Plastic, microfibers, discarded or unsold clothing... The Earth is struggling to keep up with the rate of our trash.

Plastic: a persistent scourge

Every minute, the equivalent of a truckload of plastic is dumped into the oceans. And once there, it takes up to 500 years to degrade . Bags, bottles, packaging, synthetic fibers: plastic doesn't disappear, it fragments. The result? Microplastics are now present in drinking water, table salt, and even in our bodies .

This waste injures or kills millions of marine animals every year, suffocating or poisoning them. But it doesn't just come from packaging: nearly 35% of microplastics in the oceans come from the care of synthetic textiles (such as polyester or nylon).

Textiles: an invisible but massive waste

The fashion industry generates 92 million tons of textile waste each year . Between overproduction, unsold items burned, clothes worn a few times and then thrown away... the current system is based on a logic of waste.

And often, these clothes are made of synthetic materials, including plastic. A polyester T-shirt will never compost naturally: it will transform into microparticles, polluting the soil, air, and water.

Each wash releases up to 700,000 plastic microfibers , which escape the filters and end up in the oceans.

Our response at LO NEEL

At LO NEEL , we reject this throwaway logic.
Our commitment to combating waste is based on three major areas :

1. Clean and sustainable materials

We select plant-based, recycled or biodegradable textiles, without virgin plastic. Piñatex® (pineapple fiber), FSC viscose , organic cotton : each material is chosen for its ability to reduce waste at the source .

2. Sustainable production

No overproduction, no unsold items destroyed, "zero lifestyle waste" : our collections are limited, designed to last and be worn for a long time. We focus on circular fashion , with eco-designed and recyclable pieces.

3. Concrete commitments

We partner with Re-Fashion to give clothes a second life. We also promote upcycling by reusing dormant materials. And we inform our customers about the eco-responsible care of their pieces (cold wash, anti-microfiber nets, etc.).

Every action counts

Waste doesn't disappear—it transforms, accumulates, and damages what is most precious to us: life.
But another way of consuming is possible. By choosing natural materials, buying less but better, and supporting committed brands, we can reverse the trend .

At LO NEEL , we believe that responsible fashion begins with a deep respect for nature —for its beauty, but also for its limits.
