#5 Eco-tips, deforestation due to fashion
Through this series of articles, we will offer you each week insight into the ecological impact of clothing production around the world. With LO NEEL, we are committed to the planet, our Mother Earth which welcomes and shelters us. We refuse to participate, directly or indirectly, in its pollution, degradation and destruction.
It seemed important to us to denounce abusive practices but also to propose lasting solutions on a daily basis. We hope this information will give you a better understanding of the underbelly of mass production in the fashion industry.
The LO NEEL team also supports you in raising individual ecological awareness, by offering each article in this series eco-tips to follow on a daily basis. By following them, this will allow you to behave and consume more healthily and ethically.
Here is eco-tip #5!
70 million trees are cut down every year to make our clothes.
Solution: choose ethical brands with the FSC Viscose Forest Certified label, which certifies that the material is made from wood that is already dead. This avoids deforestation in favor of textile production.
We imagined LO NEEL as a brand offering pieces with eclectic and innovative materials. This, in order to immerse our customers in a total discovery of the new possibilities of a 100% ethical fashion. One of our materials is Viscose. Our LALY dress is made of 100% Forest certified viscose fiber. This material has been qualified as “vegetal cashmere” thanks to its extreme softness.
Deforestation is partly caused by the fashion industry, but also by agricultural production. In order to mass produce palm oil, large scale deforestation is necessary. These deforestations have dramatic consequences for the ecosystem that was formed in these forests. They lead to the extinction of certain species, and others find themselves obliged to migrate to a new place to live. Deforesting large areas leads to huge and impressive fires because there are no longer enough trees to cool the atmosphere and regulate the air. We could observe this with the fires of Australia and the Amazonian forest. Men's work in the forests leads to disasters, because even if the fires start accidentally, they are deadly.
At our level, we can mitigate these mass deforestations by using the Ecosia search engine. It counts your searches and for every 45 searches, you have generated enough money to plant a tree. Their action is transparent and indispensable for our dying planet.
You can also make a donation to the company Reforest'Action , which operates in France. You can participate financially or become a volunteer and help, for one day, to plant trees near you!
