LO NEEL uses exclusively biodegradable materials
A material is considered biodegradable when it can decompose, under the action of living organisms, and without harmful effects on the environment.
This notion is governed by specific standardized criteria, where the time and threshold of biodegradability of the product, its non-toxicity, and its absence of heavy metals are verified.
Natural plant fibers are biodegradable, however a material must be tested at the end of its development, after all its treatments, to be qualified as such. During the processing stages, certain substances used in development can alter these characteristics. A biodegradable fiber does not automatically result in a biodegradable material without impact on the environment. Synthetic materials, known to take hundreds of years to disappear, can be optimized in design to improve their biodegradability. More and more synthetics are labeled “biosourced”, “biopolymer” or “bioplastic”.
Please note that biosourced materials are not automatically biodegradable. Having a polymer synthesized from a natural resource does not automatically guarantee easy disintegration of the material obtained. These innovations must be tested and certified when they advance these promises.
Skin is naturally biodegradable, but leather, skin made rot-proof by different treatments, is not necessarily so. It is necessary to check its characteristics at the end of its life, which will attest to the safety of its decomposition.
LO NEEL is a vegan brand that uses exclusively plant-based materials to create its collections.
