Brand communications managers are today in panic mode at the idea of communicating on topics related to CSR. Caution is required. And legislators are taking up Green Claims in France as well as in Europe and everywhere else to put a stop to greenwashing with important future regulations.
Don't panic, there are plenty of tools available.
The latest to appear is The Sustainable Fashion Communication Playbook, co-published by UNEP and United Nations Climate Change. It provides a shared vision, principles and guidance on how to align the global fashion industry's consumer communications with sustainability goals.
In summary, it shows how fashion communicators – marketers, brand managers, image makers, media, influencers and others – can contribute to the achievement of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals in 1 ) countering misinformation, 2) reducing messages perpetuating overconsumption, 3) reorienting aspirations towards more sustainable lifestyles, and 4) empowering consumers to demand action from businesses and policymakers more energetic.
