#9 Eco-tips, water pollution

Through this series of articles, we will offer you each week insight into the ecological impact of clothing production around the world. With LO NEEL, we are committed to the planet, our Mother Earth which welcomes and shelters us. We refuse to participate, directly or indirectly, in its pollution, degradation and destruction.

It seemed important to us to denounce abusive practices but also to propose lasting solutions on a daily basis. We hope this information will give you a better understanding of the underbelly of mass production in the fashion industry.

The LO NEEL team also supports you in raising individual ecological awareness, by offering each article in this series eco-tips to follow on a daily basis. By following them, this will allow you to behave and consume more healthily and ethically.

Here is eco-tip #9!

20% of industrial water pollution comes from the textile industry through production and dyeing.

200,000 tonnes of dyes are poured into waterways each year.

Solution: Choose clothing made from organic or natural fibers that do not require chemicals to make.

Through LO NEEL pieces, we offer a plurality of innovative materials. They are all natural or recycled. We ensured that they were produced in a healthy and ecological way. This method of production does not require chemicals. Our pieces, for example, are dyed with dye made from natural components. Thus, the fibers that make up our pieces are organic and cannot, therefore, pollute the planet. For example, our PINEAPPLE jacket was made from pineapple fiber itself made from the recovery of waste from pineapple production. The dead leaves of the fruits are collected and reworked. Each year, there are approximately 13 million tonnes of waste from global pineapple agricultural production. If we used waste from the top 10 pineapple-producing countries, we could theoretically replace around 50% of global leather production without planting a single pineapple. This natural and 100% organic fiber does not require chemicals to be produced.

On a daily basis, we advise you to pay attention to the behavior of the companies you contact. River pollution is unfortunately very widespread. In fact, having your waste treated pays off for businesses. This explains illegal deposits in nature, forests or waterways. Be careful of greenwashing practices used far too often to attract consumers.
